Hi love!

If you feel like you’re going crazy and can’t get a grip on things….I’m here to tell you, ‘You’re Not Alone” and I’m going to give you some tips on how to manage it. I think that there’s just a lot going on in the world, and if you’re feeling more anxiety than normal, again, you’re not alone, and hopefully these tips will help.

Anxiety, it can really be torturous, and it just has its way with us…we think we have so many tools, we think that we’re a calm, sane person, we take good care of ourselves, and this anxiety can come in and just get a grip on us, and it can almost feel like we’re losing control. Which is actually a good thing, because often, anxiety is the doorway to surrender. To really be free from anxiety, we have to be willing to totally surrender. To totally let go. To totally trust that everything’s OK…and everything’s going to work out. So, consider that if your anxiety is really up for you, that there’s a deeper level of surrender here. And I can’t give you the 1, 2, 3 step plan to surrender….prayer helps, a good cry helps, really feeling your emotions, and just the willingness, to really let go of control.

But I know that that’s not easy to do, just slip into surrender, so I do want to give you some tools to help manage your anxiety, so it doesn’t feel like it’s just running away with you. So, first thing is, Be in the Present Moment as much as possible. A big reason anxiety exists is because we’re thinking about something in the future or something that hasn’t yet happened. So, bringing ourselves back to the present moment is one of the major ways we release anxiety. Do that with your breath. Do that with me right now. Just take a nice deep breath……and do it by looking around the room, noticing a plant, a pillow on your sofa, taking a look at your own reflection, looking in your own eyes….anything that really brings you into the present moment….

But the best tool is your breath. (another big breath) And, a really beautiful type of breath work you can do is, Alternate Nostril Breathing. And you do that, by bringing your middle two fingers, so your index finger and your middle finger to the bridge of your nose, and you close off your left nostril with either your thumb or pinky whatever hand you’re using, and you take a nice deep breath in through your right nostril………..you close that nostril off….HOLD….and breath out through the left nostril, inhale through the left nostril, close it off and HOLD, and exhale through the right nostril. That’s really good to balance the brain, the right and left hemisphere’s of the brain, and that alternate nostril breathing really will help calm down the anxiety.

The other thing you can do especially if the anxiety almost feels panicky, is take a bottle cap, or a little ball, or a pen cap or something and toss it from your right hand to your left hand and back and forth. Like tossing something, from your right hand to your left hand, and from your left hand to your right hand, just tossing something between your hands back and forth, back and forth, that also helps balance out the brain, and can bring some calm.

Reassuring yourself, telling yourself, that everything’s going to be okay…bringing one hand to your heart and one hand to your belly and taking a breath, and telling yourself, it’s okay, everything’s going to be okay. Even if you don’t’ know the answer, even if you don’t know how, it’s okay. It’s gonna be okay. Maybe even make a voice memo of yourself reassuring yourself, and Listening to yourself. The thing about anxiety is that, it really throws us into our fight or flight, and it Revs up our nervous system, and we release a Lot of cortisol and that can lead to physical problems too.

A lot of people who are suffering from high anxiety, they start getting sick because they’re immune system weakens, they start having weird physical ailments, makes it impossible to lose any weight because our nervous system is So revved up when we’re in that fight or flight that it’s hard for our body to restore itself to its normal, natural state of wellness. Now I don’t say this to panic you, I don’t want you to have anxiety about managing your anxiety, let this just be an encouragement, to really commit to, Chilling Out!

And that may mean, that you have to say no to things. You have to put some things on hold. One yoga class, or one 5 minute meditation a day, is not really going to get your body back to the relaxed, calm state that it needs to be in. You need to Restore your nervous system, by taking a break and Chilling Out! God knew what he was doing when he created SundaysJ Get away from your computer, say no to some invitations, tell the people in your life that you need a little time, and chill out! Rest & Restore! Your nervous system will thank you.

And while your relaxing really find ways to self-soothe yourself. A good way is to just rub the insides of your arms gently, just touching ourselves in a gentle way helps us soothe our self. Maybe grab a stuffed animal and cuddle with it. I have a really soft feeling blanket that I love to wrap myself up in. Surround yourself with flowers, essential oils, candles, and this goes for men too.

Other things that are more Action orientated, because sometimes anxiety just needs to be released: Dancing is one of my favorite ways to do that. Just put on some great music and having a dance party in your house. That is a great way to release anxiety. Release writing, where you just get blank paper and just write, write, write all your fears, everything you’re worried about, write all those worse case scenarios out that the anxiety is creating in your head, and then rip it up or burn it! Exercise is another great way to move that energy with that intention of just really feeling in your body and moving that energy.

And finally, just getting out in nature, and going and putting your feet on the grass or any kind of water, taking a hike without listening to anything. Without taking your phone. Just you, being alone in nature. And of course meditation….
